Beyond Paradise Humphrey and Martha

Beyond Paradise — who might turn up for the wedding?

This Friday (26 April 2024) sees the final episode of Beyond Paradise series 2. Last time round the end of series was followed with confirmation of a second series. Will we see the same again, or is this the end of the road, given Humphrey and Martha end up (I assume) married?

Talking of weddings, who might turn up from St Marie?

Last week we had Harry the Lizard (sort of), and last series ended with a random trip back to St Marie for Humphrey and Martha. This begs the question — who might wander by Shepton Mallet for the wedding?

Commissioner Selwyn Patterson

Most likely is the Commissioner, Selwyn Patterson (Don Warrington). He showed Martha St Marie when Humphrey was working and has a duck named in his honour in Shepton Mallet.

He also might be in England visiting his daughter, rather than travelling thousands of miles for the wedding.

We need someone (depending on how traditional the wedding is) to give Martha away, so who knows?

Catherine Bordey

Next in terms of knowing both Humphrey and Martha would be Catherine Bordey (Elizabeth Bourgine). Again a long way to come, but she could be visiting Camille in Paris.

On this basis, we might wonder if Camille would also pop in, with baby and husband, but that feels a step to far in terms of explanation within the show.

Humphrey’s family?

Then there’s Humphrey’s family. Aunt Mary (Wendy Craig) appeared in Death in Paradise in 2016. She was beginning to suffer mental decline, so perhaps the character can’t travel? Then what of his mother and father? We saw his father (James Fox) also in St Marie for an episode — a safe bet for an appearance?

What about Wayne, Florence, Jack…?

DI Mooney at least has the convenience of being (we assume) in London, so is an outside chance in my view. The rest are fan speculation in my view… hang on… isn’t that what this article is?!

Anyway, I don’t think it will be overdone, there’s also a need to solve a crime as well!
