Bodkin charts as the Dead Boys fade and Bridgerton returns

A look at this week’s Netflix Top 10 (copied below) is bleak reading for fans of The Dead Boy Detectives. The trend I saw last week continues, while new Siobhán Cullen show Bodkin appears mid-table. Given the minimal marketing for Bodkin, the numbers are fine. Also of interest is the return to the Top 10 of Bridgerton seasons 1 and 2 — today (as I … Continue reading Bodkin charts as the Dead Boys fade and Bridgerton returns

Only Murders in the Building

Only Murders in the Building season 4 date and teaser trailer

Hulu has set the date for Only Murders in the Building and provided a teaser (see below). The show will premiere August 27th. In the new season, Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short) and Mabel (Selena Gomez) leave the Arconia and New York. The first trailer explains why they will be making the cross-country trip to Hollywood and showcases Charles’ negotiating prowess. Cast includes Meryl … Continue reading Only Murders in the Building season 4 date and teaser trailer

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder coming in July

It seems A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder is set to hit the BBC (including iPlayer) in July. The Emma Myers led show is coming to the UK before then hitting Netflix later in the year. The date was dropped on Twitter, and apparently other social media. While looking around for updates, I noticed a lot of confusion among fans about the setting for the … Continue reading A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder coming in July

Obituary (season 1?) — some thoughts

With two Siobhán Cullen shows hitting Netflix at about the same time, fans of intriguing Irish drama were spoiled for choice (and may recognise Cullen from The Dry). I knuckled down to dark (very) comedy Obituary, and my time was well rewarded. What’s Obituary about? It’s a joint RTÉ / Hulu production, and kudos to RTÉ for naming Cullen’s character Elvira Clancy as the prim … Continue reading Obituary (season 1?) — some thoughts

Professor T series 3

Professor T series 3 — some thoughts

In my opinion (and I’ll justify later), Professor T series 3 was the strongest so far. It was also transitional, and in evolving the storyline, I felt there were some flaws. I’ll explain what I mean below and there will be spoilers. I’ll break my thoughts down into the good, the bad and the flawed. Professor T series 3 — the good The idea of … Continue reading Professor T series 3 — some thoughts

Melissa Roxburgh

Melissa Roxburgh to lead new drama Hunting Party

I’ve just finished Manifest season 2 (thoughts later) and noticed Melissa Roxburgh will be the lead in a new NBC crime drama Hunting Party. The following is all from the Variety article. Between the end of Manifest and now she’s also been in season 2 of now cancelled Quantum Leap and recently appeared a show I don’t follow called Tracker. The synopsis for Hunting Party … Continue reading Melissa Roxburgh to lead new drama Hunting Party

Obituary Bodkin Siobhan Cullen

Obituary & Bodkin — first thoughts on two new Siobhán Cullen Netflix series

I’d been waiting for Obituary to hit Netflix, so gave the first two episodes a look yesterday. I then got confused. New today was Bodkin. In a bout of déjà vu like bewilderment, I watched the first episode of the latter. A few moments in and I double-checked — yes, Siobhán Cullen was playing lead in both dark comedies. To add to confusion, both shows … Continue reading Obituary & Bodkin — first thoughts on two new Siobhán Cullen Netflix series

Beyond Paradise series 2

Beyond Paradise series 2 — some thoughts

Let me start with an empty statement — Beyond Paradise series 2 was “better” than series 1. As I’ve said elsewhere, that’s pretty meaningless and at best subjective. That all needs qualifying, so carry on reading and I’ll explain what I liked. Familiarity didn’t breed contempt We know the characters from series 1 (and Christmas), but as part of putting them another series of crimes … Continue reading Beyond Paradise series 2 — some thoughts

psych season 1

Psych season 1 — first impressions

Netflix just added US comedy crime show psych in the UK, so I’ve given it a quick look. It’s good to see Netflix getting some back-catalogue going, even if comedy crime is something I don’t always gel with. I watched about one-and-a-half seasons of Brooklyn 911 before bailing as an example. The USP (Unique Selling Point) of the show is hero Shawn Spencer (James Roday) … Continue reading Psych season 1 — first impressions

Don Gilet is DI Mervin Wilson

Don Gilet revealed as new DI in Death in Paradise

The BBC has revealed Don Gilet is joining Death in Paradise as new DI Mervin Wilson. Gilet is already in Guadeloupe filming the Christmas Special and next series. While none of my random guesses was even close, at least I can stop checking the BBC website every day for news! Here’s what we know so far: Making his debut in a feature-length Christmas special later … Continue reading Don Gilet revealed as new DI in Death in Paradise

Death in Paradise series 3-6 — some thoughts

After my nostalgic look at the Ben Miller series of Death in Paradise (in time for the latest series of Professor T), I naturally continued with the Kris Marshall years. Yes, it’s time for DI Humphrey Goodman, and a great chance to compare the character with Miller’s Richard Poole, and the Humphrey we now see in Beyond Paradise. I’ll take it series by series after … Continue reading Death in Paradise series 3-6 — some thoughts
