Britannia cancelled

Britannia — Sky cancels series after three seasons

Cancelled Sci reports Sky has cancelled Britannia after three seasons. They’ve covered the main reasons — expensive to produce and only popular in the UK. It rates well enough, but there are no obvious audience figures. The article goes on to cover how US take-up has changed and not helped the show.

Given other shows (eg Vikings / Vikings Valhalla, Last Kingdom) do well enough, I wonder if the show could be picked up by a more focussed streamer (I mean Netflix). Given recent track records, I suspect not.

If you don’t know, Britannia follows General Aulus Plautius (played by The Walking Dead‘s David Morrissey) as he leads a Roman invasion of Britain, allegedly in the interest of the Empire though he has his own agenda. The people of Britain prove to be formidable foes but may have to rely on the prophecy that one young woman will lead them to victory. It stars David Morrissey, Kelly Reilly, Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Mackenzie Crook, Barry Ward, and Eleanor Worthington Cox.
