Bridgerton season 3 back at #1 — but I’m confused (not)

June 10-16 saw the second tranche of Bridgerton season 3, and the show is back on top of the weekly Top 10 views. Rather expected, but I note the audience views looks low — only 28,000,000 views, compared to around 45,000,000 for the first tranche. But. This now looks across eight episodes, not four, so it’s actually comparable and possibly better. Certainly more hours. But I’m … Continue reading Bridgerton season 3 back at #1 — but I’m confused (not)

Baby Reindeer

Baby Reindeer beats Bridgerton season 3 into the Top 10

I’ve been so focused on watching Bridgerton season 3 part 1 as it edges into the all time Top 10 for English TV at Netflix (after 91 days), I overlooked the huge numbers for Baby Reindeer! While it’s held the first part of Polin’s love story back, part 2 is out today, and I expect a massive jump in audience and a guaranteed place in … Continue reading Baby Reindeer beats Bridgerton season 3 into the Top 10

Damsel

Damsel is officially popular at Netflix

I’ve been waiting for Bridgerton season 3 to hit the all time Top 10 Netflix list for English TV, but this week’s observation is actually about Damsel. While I thought Millie Bobby Brown’s film was OK, it seems a lot of people have been watching it in the first 13 weeks and the film is now #8 on the all time Top 10 for English … Continue reading Damsel is officially popular at Netflix

Bridgerton still topping the Netflix Top 10

We’ve the first full week of Bridgerton season 3 part 1, and Polin’s romance still tops the Netflix Top 10 (ie week May 20-26, 2024). The halo effect has brought every other Bridgerton title into the chart, squeezing most other shows to one side. Baby Reindeer (which I’ve not watched) is still doing well, and Bodkin (which I’ve nearly finished) is holding on. Judge for … Continue reading Bridgerton still topping the Netflix Top 10

Bridgerton season 3 pt 1 dominates the Netflix Top 10

Bridgerton season 3 part 1 dropped on Netflix last week, and is already dominating the Top 10, while seasons 1 and 2 are still doing well (as they were the week previously). Elsewhere a decent showing for Bodkin, whereas Dead Boy Detectives has vanished from the chart. Baby Reindeer is also doing well. Here’s the chart (less runtime for space reasons): # TV (English) WEEKS … Continue reading Bridgerton season 3 pt 1 dominates the Netflix Top 10

Netflix Engagement Report

Netflix by numbers — engagement report for H1 2023

In an unexpected move, Netflix has published what it calls an Engagement Report. Covering the first half of this year, the intention is a bi-annual exposure of viewing figures for the vast majority of titles. As you might have spotted, I’m always interested in data and welcome this. What is the engagement report? I’ll let Netflix explain (apologies for the length of this cut and … Continue reading Netflix by numbers — engagement report for H1 2023

Queen Charlotte

Queen Charlotte makes the Netflix all time Top 10

Thanks to the change in how the Top 10 is calculated (first 91 days instead of 28) and as expected, Queen Charlotte is now the 9th most watched English language TV series on Netflix. The full list is here, but for convenience I’ve also grabbed a screen shot: I can’t recall (and too lazy to work it out) how many days Queen Charlotte has been … Continue reading Queen Charlotte makes the Netflix all time Top 10

Wednesday rules the New Style Top 10

Wednesday rules the new style Top 10

Netflix has changed the way it tracks viewing to determine the shows with biggest audience appeal, and ultimately to inform renewal or cancelation. One consequence is the all time Top 10 chart has now changed. What was 28 days is now 91; what was hours viewed is now episodes. The promotes Wednesday from #2 to #1. What else happened? The Top 10 TV (English) as … Continue reading Wednesday rules the new style Top 10

Netflix overhauls its metrics

Netflix overhauls its metrics for show performance

Netflix has announced significant changes to how it calculates viewing metrics for shows. The two big changes are: episode length now taken into account; 51 days is now a9key point, not 28 days. This allows slower watch shows (I’m thinking The Sandman) to catch up with shows watched in a short burst. It’s a multiple of 7, so the period is now (close to) three … Continue reading Netflix overhauls its metrics for show performance
