Variety digs deep into the Paramount saga

Variety has produced a detailed presentation of events connected with the recent failed merger(s) /takeover(s) of Paramount. The image is the cover of their print magazine and paints a deliberately dark picture. It’s hard to see anything changing for the better in the short to medium term. As an outsider, I found it a fascinating read. I look forward to the next as and when … Continue reading Variety digs deep into the Paramount saga

Paramount takeover — more mixed messages

Since my last few posts on the topic of a potential Paramount takeover, the story had taken more twists and turns. As far as I understand it, the Sony offer cooled off, at a key corporate meeting the current management presented an alternative way forward (mix of sales, joint ventures and cost savings), more discussions with Skydance and it seems even a new bidder. Here’s … Continue reading Paramount takeover — more mixed messages

New Skydance offer for Paramount to be considered

It seems the Sony / Apollo offer for Paramount (or part thereof) has fallen away, and it’s back to Skydance Media with a new offer. Deadline has some details and points to a shareholder meeting tomorrow (4 June 2024). It seems interest in buying the whole group had diminished, sending share prices down. I wondered if this were … Continue reading Paramount — possible takeover still wobbling along

Paramount takeover — more updates

It’s been a good week since my last update, and I thought I’d skim the various posts I’ve seen. A good place to start is Deadline’s piece, which suggests Skydance are not out of the picture leaving the Apollo / Sony deal in discussion. At one point Variety suggested it would be no deal at all, with Paramount rejecting Sony again (they already turned down … Continue reading Paramount takeover — more updates

Deadline makes predictions for UK broadcasting in 2022

It’s the end of the year, so time to gaze into crystal balls. I noted an article on Deadline — Five UK TV Trends To Dominate 2022: British Broadcasting Under Threat Like Never Before, Ongoing Skills Crisis & Banijay’s Play. It’s a substantial title, and the piece makes some interesting observations, some of which I was more surprised by than others. Do read the article, … Continue reading Deadline makes predictions for UK broadcasting in 2022
