Dead Boy Detectives — how bad are those numbers?

For a few weeks I’ve been pointing out Dead Boy Detectives hasn’t set the Netflix Top 10 chart alight. Instinct tells me the show is likely to be cancelled. Instinct is fine, but the folks at What’s on Netflix did a deep dive into the audience figures a few weeks ago. It’s really not looking good. Bottom line is the show will not survive by … Continue reading Dead Boy Detectives — how bad are those numbers?

Bridgerton season 3 pt 1 dominates the Netflix Top 10

Bridgerton season 3 part 1 dropped on Netflix last week, and is already dominating the Top 10, while seasons 1 and 2 are still doing well (as they were the week previously). Elsewhere a decent showing for Bodkin, whereas Dead Boy Detectives has vanished from the chart. Baby Reindeer is also doing well. Here’s the chart (less runtime for space reasons): # TV (English) WEEKS … Continue reading Bridgerton season 3 pt 1 dominates the Netflix Top 10

Bodkin charts as the Dead Boys fade and Bridgerton returns

A look at this week’s Netflix Top 10 (copied below) is bleak reading for fans of The Dead Boy Detectives. The trend I saw last week continues, while new Siobhán Cullen show Bodkin appears mid-table. Given the minimal marketing for Bodkin, the numbers are fine. Also of interest is the return to the Top 10 of Bridgerton seasons 1 and 2 — today (as I … Continue reading Bodkin charts as the Dead Boys fade and Bridgerton returns

Dead Boy Detectives week #2 audience

Dead Boy Detectives fails to ignite the audience

After the first few days, I was concerned with the audience for Dead Boy Detectives. We’ve now got the first full week’s numbers and I have to say they aren’t compelling. Here they are, and again I’ve deleted the Run Time column to fit my blog format, Views is Hours divided by Run Time: # TV (English) WEEKS IN TOP 10 HOURS VIEWED VIEWS 1 … Continue reading Dead Boy Detectives fails to ignite the audience

Dead Boy Detectives needs better numbers to get a season 2

Netflix has published the audience figures for April 22-28, and my immediate reaction is the numbers for Dead Boy Detectives aren’t great. OK, not a full week, but take a look (Views = Hours divided by Run Time — I had to delete the Run Time column to fit the blog format)… # TV (English) WEEKS HOURS VIEWED VIEWS 1 Baby Reindeer: Limited Series 3 … Continue reading Dead Boy Detectives needs better numbers to get a season 2

Dead Boy Detectives season 1 — some thoughts

Short review — I binged and would watch a second season. I suspect there’s every chance Dead Boy Detectives will get renewed. Long review — carry on reading! By way of tracking public opinion, Rotten Tomatoes currently has 91% critics, 83% audience. The latter doesn’t seem to be from a particularly large pool, so expect the numbers to change. For now it’s Certified Fresh. Context … Continue reading Dead Boy Detectives season 1 — some thoughts

Neil Gaiman talks about his various series in an era of cost-cutting

A series of writers spoke to Deadline about the current cost-cutting era. The broad sense is the boom was always ending, and the 2023 strikes probably brought a lot of shows into sharp focus. Neil Gaiman is one of them (scroll down) and he talks Dead Boy Detectives, The Sandman and Good Omens. The upshot is: Dead Boy Detectives comes out in [10] days. I’ve seen … Continue reading Neil Gaiman talks about his various series in an era of cost-cutting

Dead Boy Detectives is my pick for April

At first glance, my calendar for April 2024 is a little spartan, particularly when compared withe month just gone. I won’t watch Rebel Moon Part 2 (Part 1 was terrible enough), and can’t get Star Trek Discovery, so no final season for me at the moment. That leaves one highlight (more will appear) — Dead Boy Detectives. A spin-off from the ideas in Neil Gaiman’s … Continue reading Dead Boy Detectives is my pick for April

Six new shows for 2024

Six new shows I want to watch in 2024

Over on CultBox I’m looking heralding the New Year with Six new shows to look forward to in 2024. If you don’t (yet) recognise them all from the picture above, they are (starting top left running clockwise): The Artful Dodger, Renegade Nell, Nightsleeper, Orphan Black: Echoes, Agatha: The Darkhold Diaries and Dead Boy Detectives. Reality being what it is, I imagine I’ll only manage more … Continue reading Six new shows I want to watch in 2024

Fester spin-off for Wednesday

Is there a Fester spin-off to Wednesday to look forward to?

The same Bloomberg piece that mentions Peaky Blinders spin-offs also talks about why Wednesday is being explored as a franchise by Netflix. It also goes into the economics of why this is more likely than having the multi-season shows we had more often in the past. The economics is all about rising cost of stars as a series progresses. In some ways Castle is a … Continue reading Is there a Fester spin-off to Wednesday to look forward to?

Dead Boy Detectives teaser trailer

Netflix has released a teaser trailer for upcoming Neil Gaiman series Dead Boy Detectives. Set in the universe of The Sandman (and I expect a connection in the next season of The Sandman), the show centres onEdwin Payne (George Rexstrew) and Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri), “the brains” and “the brawn” behind the Dead Boy Detectives Agency. Beware, these sleuths aren’t human — they’re both ghosts … Continue reading Dead Boy Detectives teaser trailer
