His Dark Material series 1 – overall thoughts

As you might have guessed from my previous thoughts, His Dark Materials was pretty much excellent in all departments. It’s a complex and richly crafted story in the first place and the BBC adaptation took it’s time painting everything with great care. The effects were good and it’s been a compelling end to 2019 on Sunday evenings. We also now know there will be a second series. I can’t wait. I’d like to highlight a couple of things…

His Dark Materials – so far, so good

We’re two episodes into the eight part, first series of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials on the BBC and it’s impressive. Sets, cast, effects, demons all rather impressive. If you look around you’ll find the usual posts about 1.5 million few viewers of episode 2 and how the novels have been compromised to make them more woke, but I’m ignoring all that.
