Talking Pictures TV are bringing 1953 film Invaders from Mars to our screens on Saturday 29 June at 1 pm. They focus on:
… cast of Helena Carter, Arthur Franz & Jimmy Hunt. The film is directed by William Cameron Menzies whose prolific career included pioneering the use of colour in film for dramatic effect. His work on production design was so highly praised that he won an honourary Academy Award for his work on Gone with the Wind.
I’ve never seen Gone with the Wind, but here it is getting a mention. As to Invaders from Mars, the plot (via wiki) is:
The film follows David MacLean, a young boy who witnesses a flying saucer behind his home one night. When his father investigates, he returns a changed man; soon David’s mother, his neighbors, and others begin to act in the same way. David’s panicked story is heard by Dr. Pat Blake, who takes him to astronomer Dr. Stuart Kelston. David soon convinces Kelston, who comes to believe that this is an invading vanguard from Mars.
