Dwayne returns to Death in Paradise

Dwayne’s back in St Marie — no surprise

As expected, Danny John Jules is back in Death in Paradise, as Dwayne Myers steps into the gap left by recently departed Marlon. So far it’s been handled well, with the past relationship Darlene and he had being a useful means of exploring just how far his character has changed. From what we’ve seen, I suspect he may be back into series 14.

What next for nostalgia?

Not only did we have Dwayne, but DI Neville Parker (Ralf Little) also had an unexpected visit from ex-girlfriend Zoe (aka Sunset Chaser). I like how this has been a brief interlude, giving us a chance to see how Neville has moved on, but also driven him to a decision. It looks like Neville will be leaving the show, bringing a new (I assume) detective for series 14. But…

Yes, the feast of returning characters continues as Florence is now out of witness protection, and there’s possibilities of romance back on the table.

Is a Neville / Florence romance going to happen?

I don’t think Death in Paradise is about a relationship between leads (it’s not Lucifer, The X-files or Moonlighting). I don’t see how the team dynamics would work going forward, but the show does seem to be looking in on itself and reshaping for the future. Of course there’s the Darlene / Dwayne dynamic already reforming, and anything is possible.

From what I’ve seen, actor Ralf Little is suggesting his leaving the show is up in the air, and down to the writers, suggesting he might ‘take a break’ at the end of this series, and be given time to decide what he wants to do. Whatever the writers choose, I hope we find out as this run ends, rather than have to wait.
