Sanditon series 2 may have only just finished on ITV (in the UK) but we already know a few things about series 3. This includes approximate dates and some details for the cast, as well as a teaser trailer. The purpose of this post is to act as a cornerstone for future series 3 content.
Not only did two series of Sanditon get commissioned (series 2 and 3) but the principal photography was done together (better use of sets and presumably easier to get key cast members for both series. In the US, Sanditon is show on Masterpiece PBS, and after series 2, they posted the following teaser trailer:
What do we learn from the Sanditon series 3 teaser?
Unsurprisingly, Charlotte is back (for what I assume is one final time) and back in Sanditon. There’s no evidence I can spot as to how long the gap is meant to be, but I guess a year (to allow for another summer), so key question — did she get married or not?
We see the Colbourne’s are back as well, and Charlotte must surely end up married to Alexander Colbourne? Apart from that nothing. It’s reasonable to assume the Parkers are back and Georgiana has a quest to find her mother. I’ve also read Charles Lockhart is also back, so expect more trouble.
Several sources (including this one) quote interviews confirming neither Esther nor Colonel Lennox will return, leaving space for other plots. I would assume Lady Denham returns, and possible Edward Denham, though with no Esther to torment, and probably no Clara, who will he set his sites on?
I wonder if Augusta Colbourne will get more to do in terms of a romantic line (god forbid Edward!) and with the density of plot in series 2, I wonder if we’ll get at least a couple of new principal characters — and what about Charlotte’s fiancé? (Husband?)
Will we get any other returnees from series 1 such as young Stringer or Lady Susan? Given the single set of principal photography I feel maybe not.
When will it arrive?
I’m expecting dates similar to series 2, with a BritBox (presumably ITVX by then) release at a similar time to PBS in the US then an ITV release, probably midsummer as per series 2.
I’ll keep my eyes open.
