Emily Bader as Lady Jane Grey

My Lady Jane — new on Prime Video today

Arrived today (June 27) on Prime Video is new series My Lady Jane. As they say in their promo: The new series, set in an alt-fantasy Tudor world and inspired by the best-selling novel of the same name, could be your favorite new binge-worthy show.

I’m not clear how far alt-fantasy drifts into more magical fantasy. A quick skim around suggests it’s not too dissimilar from what I might call urban fantasy. I will try an episode and judge — I thought I’d like Renegade Nell for example, but couldn’t finish the first episode.

As the plot of the novel by Cynthia Hand, Jodi Meadows and Brodi Ashton says:

Lady Jane Grey, sixteen, is about to be married to a total stranger – and caught up in an insidious plot to rob her cousin, King Edward, of his throne. But that’s the least of Jane’s problems. She’s about to become Queen of England. Like that could go wrong.

Maybe she was only queen in our world for 9 nine days, but… what if?

Who’s in My Lady Jane?

Jane Grey is played by Emily Bader, Edward Bluemel plays her new husband Guildford, Jordan Peters plays King Edward. The cast also includes Dominic Cooper, Anna Chancellor, Rob Brydon and Jim Broadbent.

The trailer will give you a flavour of the show:
